LA RONDA PARAKATA

Lead artists / Artistas lideres: Hector Duarte, Alfonso “Piloto” Nieves

This design is a circular sculpture or “ronda” of interlocking butterfly forms inspired by the magic symbolism of the monarch butterfly, harmony with nature, and migration. The center of the space features native plants and repurposed cement blocks as rustic seating. La Ronda Paraka is the site of an annual Día de los Muertos event in late October, hosted by Casa Michoacán, Northeastern Illinois University Bilingual School Programs, Field Museum, and Chicago Park District.

Community Partner: Casa Michoacán (Pilsen) promotes cultural, social, and sporting activities between the Mexican and immigrant Michoacán community, with a transnational vision.
